I don't use Origin so I can't give you a definitive answer, but your description of the problem sounds like either a problem with their server or your network connection. Have you tried pinging the Origin server when you get those error messages? You should probably post your question on a forum devoted to Origin. If it's a server issue, Windows users will be experiencing the problem, too.
