thank you for the hint! This really solves my troubles.
BTW: my running kernel is 2.4.20-8 and, playing a bit with the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
statement, I 've noticed that almost any kernel version before 2.4 is ok for
the applications i tried yesterday (office, some VC++, some musical software),
whereas >=2.4 means troubles.
