First of all Windows gaming under Linux is highly specialised.

So I suggest Transgaming's winex, over wine as they have some
additions. See http://www.transgaming.com/ for more info.

There are issues with the menu in HL at present, I believe
Transgaming are looking into this as we speak. If you want online
multi-player CS, then use the command options, to connect to a server.

I would suggest trying to following, and experimenting with these to
see if this bypasses the problems, otherwise buy another graphics
card, or if your that desperate to still play CS, switch to Windows.

winex hl.exe -- hl.exe -gl -console -w 1024 -noipx -nojoy
-numericping -console -toconsole -game cstrike +connect 1.2.3.4
