5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5 From: Mel Rodgers <melrodgers@xxxxxxx> Dear Colleagues, I am reaching out to invite you to submit an abstract for our Session GI4.6 "From Satellite-Based to UAS-Based Approaches: Geoscience Research Platforms for the 21st Century" Convener: Vincenzo De Novellis, Co-conveners: Francesco Zucca, Filippo Accomando, Mel Rodgers Co-organized by BG9 at the upcoming EGU General Assembly 2025, which will be held in Vienna from April 27th to May 2nd 2025. This session will explore the efforts of integration of SATELLITE & UAV technologies within the geoscience community, emphasizing their contributions to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). UASs equipped with diverse sensors (optical, microwave, thermal, etc.), effectively bridge the gap between satellite and ground-based sensing, offering critical insights into environmental changes like erosion, slope instability and riververbank degradation, cryosphere dynamics. They also support precision agriculture and disaster recovery efforts by enabling detailed pre and post event assessments. Topics include satellite UAS integration, geological & agricultural applications, advancements in UAS configurations and payloads sensors, and operational best practices in challenging environments such as volcanoes, mountains as well as fires. In addition, we aim to create a special issue dedicated to these themes and are currently in discussions with editors of leading international journals. We encourage contributions that can help shape this initiative, showcasing innovative research and developments in remote sensing technologies and their applications.
