Dear colleagues,

We invite you to submit your abstracts to our session "*Exploring the
physical and chemical evolution of magmas in volcanic plumbing systems:
implications for magma reservoir, conduit processes and eruptive styles*"
(included in the Program Theme 3: â??Volcanic processesâ??) at the IAVCEI
Scientific Assembly 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland, 29th June â?? 4th July 2025.

Convener: Fabio Arzilli (University of Camerino), Chiara Maria Petrone (Natural
History Museum, London), Giuseppe La Spina (INGV-OE Catania), Barbara
Bonechi (University of Manchester), Lea Ostorero (University of Milanoâ??
Bicocca).

Session description:

Investigating magmatic processes that control the physical and chemical
evolution of magmatic properties within volcanic reservoirs is essential
for quantifying pre- and syn-eruptive conditions. Magmatic processes, such
as magma crystallisation, magma mixing and degassing control magma
differentiation and rheology, which in turn influence remobilisation of
crystal mushes and cold magmas stored within the crust, formation of
eruptible magmas, magma ascent dynamics, magma fragmentation and eruptive
behaviour. Analytical and field observations, laboratory experiments and
numerical modelling provide invaluable tools to investigate pre- and
syn-eruptive conditions and to estimate timescales of magmatic processes
occurring before eruptions. This is of paramount importance for
policymakers in charge of mitigating the risks associated with volcanic
eruptions. In this session we welcome petrological, geochemical,
geophysical and volcanological studies based on analytical, experimental,
theoretical and numerical-based approaches, with the aim of shedding light
on magmatic processes occurring at depth and during ascent towards the
surface.

Invited Speaker: Dr Martin Mangler (University of Southampton)

Abstract submission deadline is the *10th January, 2025* (
