The title of this ICDP initiative is *Probing the Lithosphere Under Samoa (PLUS): A 2500-meter drill core to explore hotspot-trench interactions, continental crust recycling, the deep biosphere, and CO2 sequestration* A primary goal of the workshop will be to explore scientific questions--including petrology, geochemistry, volcanology, hydrology, fluid chemistry, deep microbiology, and geothermal resources--that can be addressed with a 2.5 km drill core at Savai'i Island, Samoa.
