The session is dedicated to the oceanic islands of the Atlantic, with the objective to bring together studies that are both diverse and complementary, through their approach (geology, geophysics, tectonics, geodesy, and geodynamics) or the spatial and temporal scales considered. *Title*: Understanding Atlantic ocean islands: contributions from geodynamics, lithosphere-asthenosphere structure and magmatism *Conveners*: Jaime Almeida (IDL-UBI, Portugal), Pablo González (IPNA-CSIC, Spain), Ana Ferreira (UCL, United Kingdom) and Stéphanie Dumont (IDL Portugal) *Abstract:* Ocean island archipelagos are outstanding natural laboratories in which we can explore the complex interactions between tectonic, magmatic and mantle processes at a wide range of scales, from mantle-lithosphere interactions to outcrop (or smaller) level observations without forgetting their possible interplay with external forcing. Within the Atlantic Ocean, several sites of this kind exist, such as Iceland, the Azores or the Canaries, each with its own unique setting,dynamics and evo- lution. This session aims to bring together contributions from geological, tectonic, geophysical, geodetic and geodynamic studies of the Atlantic Ocean islands and archipe- lagos. We particularly welcome contributions that might have new perspectives or methodological approaches that aim to increase our understanding of the recent Icelandic rifting unrest and eruptions, the 2022 Sao Jorge Island (Azores) aborted eruption and the 2011-2012 El Hierro or 2021 La Palma eruptions in the Canary Islands. We also welcome studies or datasets documenting past activity based on geological or geophysical approaches in/around eroded shield volcanoes across the Atlantic islands.
