Sign up is limited to the 50 first participants, please see below. *Post-conference 1-day field trip: Impacts of the 2018 Lower East Rift Zone Eruption of KÄ«lauea (Feb 15, 2025)* This single day post-conference field trip provides a unique opportunity to learn about the sequence of events that transpired between May and August 2018, and to link summit processes discussed in the mid conference field trip (e.g. Kilaueaâ??s caldera collapse) to an eruption that occurred ~40 km away on the lower East Rift Zone. The > 1km3 of lava erupted along > 20 fissure segments had vast impacts on the Hawaiian landscape and population, partially or completely destroying several towns and communities. The field trip involves stops at key locations across the 2018 flow field, and will allow participants to gain a more holistic view of the complex magmatic and surface processes that occurred at Kilauea during this historical eruption as well as its societal impacts. *Difficulty*: Minor to Moderate Exertion. Most stops will not involve significant walking or hiking. Depending on conditions, we may walk up portions of trails and small distances on irregular lava flows. *Date/time of departure:* 7:30am on Saturday Feb 15th in Hilo (Island of Hawaiâ??i).
