The successful candidates will undertake projects that include a heavy component of numerical modelling (both finite and discrete element method). This modelling will integrate remote sensing, geochemical, and mechanical data at target volcanoes to establish the effect of hydrothermal alteration on volcanic hazard (including flank collapse, explosive eruptions, and caldera fault reactivation). There will be opportunity for fieldwork and exchange visits within the projects. We seek candidates with a keen volcanological interest. A Masters is beneficial but not mandatory. The project is open to both EU and non-EU students.
