Dear All,
We invite you to submit an abstract to our session "Volcanic Geoheritage -
a communication link from volcano scientists to the wider public" within
Theme 7 at the upcoming IAVCEI 2025 Scientific Assembly (29 June - 4 July
2025).
Session Description:
Volcanic geoheritage refers to the geological features associated with
volcanic terrains, including volcanic processes, landforms, and eruptive
products that create, shape, or modify the landscape. This broad concept
connects the formation and features related to volcanism with other
geological entities and cultural heritage. Volcanic geoheritage is deeply
embedded in society's geoculture, linked with tangible and intangible
heritage, where dark geocultural elements are often associated with
volcanic hazards. The geodiversity of volcanoes and volcanic terrains, both
onshore and offshore, is immense, and volcanic geoheritage represents an
emerging field focused on expressing, measuring, and protecting these
features. Volcanic geoheritage can be seen as a future vehicle to connect
geosciences to society through geoeducation, nature conservation, geosystem
services, and the development of resilient communities that learn to live
with volcanic hazards. This session invites transdisciplinary approaches to
understanding volcanic geoheritage, providing a scientific platform to
share recent developments in this emerging field.

Abstract deadline: 20 December 2024
This session is sponsored by the IAVCEI Commission on Volcanic Geoheritage
and Protected Volcanic Landscapes
