Dear colleagues

Please consider submitting your work to our session: *Life in Volcanic
Environments: Human and Environmental Health impacts of volcanogenic
contaminants, *under the *Theme: 6. Hazard, Risk and Impact *at the
upcoming IAVCEI 2025 Scientific Assembly. The deadline is 20 December 2024.

*Session description: *
Life in volcanic environments can be threatened in various ways. Exposure
to volcanic gas and ash, during an eruption and through long-term
resuspension (ash), can negatively impact health. Contamination of food and
water supplies and psychological distress can also result from eruptions.
Convergence research is needed to understand disease outcomes in volcanic
environments and to design innovative, sustainable and community-centered
approaches to health prevention.

We encourage submissions from a broad range of topics related to health,
like:

1) characterizing health-relevant physicochemical properties of volcanic
(by)products, particularly spatio-temporal differences;

2) determining health risks and impacts using toxicity studies at cellular
and whole-body scales, or epidemiological approaches;

3) constraining community exposures through air and water quality
monitoring, environmental fate and transport modelling, or personal
exposure monitoring;

4) supporting community preparedness and resilience, and health responses
during eruptions;

5) exploring (psycho)social factors affecting perception and behavior
related to exposures and health risks

We look forward to receiving your contributions and seeing you in Geneva!

Best regards on behalf of all the conveners,
Ines Tomašek
