Innovative data collection and processing methods in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, remote sensing, and social science are revolutionizing our understanding of volcanic processes and hazards. This session focuses on pioneering research of techniques that have the potential to become standard practice as volcano monitoring tools. Innovative data collection technologies include, but are not limited to: Remotely Operated Vehicles, Distributed Acoustic Sensing and other fiber-optic sensing technologies, dense arrays of nodal seismometers, satellites, virtual reality, social media, ecosystem proxies, etc. The collected data can be analyzed with increasingly complex algorithms and novel processing methods, such as using machine learning, full-waveform inversion, signal processing, etc. Furthermore, increased global connectivity has shaped the way scientific knowledge is shared, such as audiovisual approaches that take indigenous and local perspectives into account. This session invites contributions that use novel data collection and processing methods from all disciplines to expand our observational capabilities of volcanoes. We encourage early-career researchers to apply to this session!
