Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce the upcoming CONVERSE ER Webinar organized by
the Emerging Researchers chapter of the CONVERSE Center. Our series aims to
provide a platform for graduate students and early career scientists to
share their research and develop new skills relevant to the field of
volcanic science.

Our next webinar will be presented by *Darren Tan*, PhD Candidate in the
Geophysics program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Geophysical
Institute.

*Time: *September 17, 2024 at 4 PM Eastern Time (UTC-4)

*Title: *Detection and Characterization of Seismic and Acoustic Signals at
Pavlof Volcano, Alaska, Using Deep Learning

*Bio and summary:*

Darren Tan is a PhD Candidate specializing in volcano seismology and
infrasound at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Geophysical Institute.
His research focuses on using cross-correlation methods to improve volcano
earthquake catalogs and applying machine learning techniques to detect and
analyze volcanic tremor. Darren is currently working on applying these
methods to decades of data from Pavlof Volcano, Alaska, and integrating
multidisciplinary observations to develop a new conceptual model of the
volcano's shallow plumbing system. He is also affiliated with the Alaska
Volcano Observatory, where he contributes to monitoring efforts. In his
free time, Darren enjoys hip hop dancing and spending time with his cat.
