Dear colleagues,

Are you working on magma emplacement in sedimentary basins and
interactions between igneous systems and sedimentary rocks? Please
consider submitting your abstract to our session on "Magma-rock
interactions in sedimentary basins" to be held at the 18th Workshop of
the International Lithosphere Program - Task Force Sedimentary Basins to
be held in Kraków, Poland from 7-11 October 2024
(

).
Our keynote speaker will be Christophe
Galerne (University of Bremen).

The meeting will host a range of topics related to sedimentary basins
from stress, strain and fluids in sedimentary basins to energy resources
and geohazards, and pre- and post-workshop field trips in Poland´s
spectacular salt mines and sequences from Neoproterozoic rifting to Late
Cretaceous basin inversion.

Please submit your abstracts (free-of-charge) before 30 July. Early
registration ends shortly on 30 June.

Looking forward to seeing many of you in Kraków in October to discuss magma
versus sediments!

Sam Poppe and PaweÅ? Poprawa, for the conveners

*Session summary*

"Magma-rock interactions in sedimentary basins"

Program group "Stress, strain and fluids in sedimentary basins"

Regional magma intrusion cycles can significantly alter the architecture
and fluid circulation in sedimentary basins, while magma-induced
stresses and strains interact with regional tectonic stresses to which a
basin is subjected. Multidisciplinary study across branches of
geoscience is often required to understand the full scope of the impact
igneous systems have on sedimentary basins. This session invites
contributions investigating igneous and volcanic systems in sedimentary
basins, such as magma emplacement modes in heterogenous rock sequences,
magma-induced deformation, thermal and chemical magma-sediment
interactions, hydrothermal fluid circulation, the impact on the thermal
history of basins, magma-sediment mineral trapping, and implications for
geothermal resources, CO2 storage, the climate, and volcanic unrest.
Approaches and multidisciplinary combinations from field observations,
mineralogical and geochemical analyses, geophysical investigations to
experimental and numerical modelling are particularly welcome.
