We would like to advertise the following PhD position for the PhD school
â??Earth Processes and Management of Resourced and Risks for a Resilient
Society and Territoryâ??. The public selection will begin towards the end of
June, with an expected starting date of the scholarship in October 2024.
The scholarship lasts three years.

*Rheological properties of fluidized and non-fluidized pyroclastic flow
mixtures*

The knowledge of the powder rheology is a fundamental resource that can be
applied to a wide range of sectors, both in the fundamental research and
industrial sector. In nature, this has important implications on the fluid
dynamics of gravity-driven currents like, e.g., pyroclastic density
currents, debris avalanches, debris flows, etc.. The possible concurrent
fluidization is often invoked to explain the exceptional mobility of these
flows. In this research, we will use cutting edge rheometry, coupled with
analytical techniques to analyse the particle size and shape distributions
and large-scale experiments, to investigate the rheology of fluidized and
non-fluidized granular material of natural origin. The candidate will have
the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment and is expected
to spend at least six months in the LAIMA (Laboratorio de Análisis de
Imágenes y Modelado Analógico) laboratory at the University of San Luis
Potosì (Mexico), where two state-of-the-art flumes at different scales are
available.

For further information, please contact Dr. Fabio Dioguardi (
fabio.dioguardi@xxxxxxxx).
