Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to inform you about the opening of a 1.5 years long
post-doc position at the University of Bologna in Italy, funded through
a collaboration with INGV Osservatorio Vesuviano and INGV Bologna. The
wider project, called WunderVul, looks at the 2021 episode of degassing
at Vulcano Island from a wide perspective. The plan for this specific
position is to develop models exploring gas ascent by hydrofracturing,
both in general and applied to Vulcano. We foresee to combine physics,
geology and geochemistry to develop these models. We hope to find an
enthusiastic candidate with modeling experience in at least one of these
fields. Good mathematical/physical skills and/or computational skills
(Matlab, Python, Julia) are required. Experience in modelling hydraulic
fracturing, magma propagation or gas solubility in magmas would be a plus.

The salary is the highest possible for this type of positions in Italy,
roughly 27kEUR per year. Bologna is a fun city with high quality of
life. We are a very friendly team and encourage applications from all
backgrounds.

The deadline for application is 22 May. The selection of candidates will
take place beginning of June. Start is foreseen on 1 July, there is
some, but not much, flexibility about this. The call, along with further
details on the formal requirements (having a PhD or at least being close
to hand in your thesis) and application procedure should appear in a few
days at the link:

We encourage potential applicants to get in touch with us regarding any
questions and for help with the procedure, which is a bit bureaucratic.
