The University of Alabama College of Arts and Sciences invites applications
for three Assistant/Associate/ Full Professor rank tenured/tenure-track
positions at the interface of Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning
and Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry and Geological Sciences, as part of a
machine-learning focused cluster hire, with the expected starting date of
August 2024. Successful candidates for the Machine Learning/AI in
Geosciences position can specialize in any subdiscipline of the
Geosciences. The department has strengths in geophysics, tectonics, water
resources, and geochemistry, and ongoing relationships with the Geological
Survey of Alabama, Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in
Hydrology (CIROH), and Alabama Water Institute. The successful candidateâ??s
research will focus on the development and application of machine
learning/AI techniques in one of these strengths or at the boundary between

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to interact with each
other and additional UA faculty across campus that are active in AI. They
will be further expected to take advantage of a new $96 million-dollar High
Performance Computing and Data Center that will come online in 2024-2025.
The minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. or equivalent,
scholarly publications, and experience with modern techniques in machine
learning. Candidates for this position are expected to have an outstanding
research record and exhibit potential for effective teaching at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to
develop a high quality, externally funded research program, as well as
teach and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates with
prestigious achievements in their field and exceptional national and
international reputations will be eligible for consideration for
significant endowment support through appointment as a Shelby Distinguished

   1. *Critical Mineral Resources Geoscientist- Tenure Track Assistant
   Professorship, Department of Geological Sciences at The University of
   Alabama*



The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Alabama invites
applications from all areas of geoscience concerning the exploration and
evaluation of critical mineral resources. This position will be filled at
the Assistant Professor level and begins in August 2024. We welcome
candidates with expertise in mineralogy, petrology, economic geology,
geochemistry, geophysics, or other fields related to critical mineral
resources. Applicants must have a strong record of research experience and
publication in earth resources, and they must have a Ph.D. in a relevant
geoscience field by the time of their appointment. Candidates with industry
or government experience are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate
will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research
program and to recruit and advise highly productive graduate students.
Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses
in the candidateâ??s specialty and in introductory geology. Geological

The College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Alabama and the
Department of Geological Sciences seeks applications for the Deanâ??s
Postdoctoral Research Associate positions. Successful candidates will hold
a Ph.D. and demonstrate a record of academic achievement. We invite
applications from all areas of geoscience. Joint appointments across
departments are possible. Initial appointments are for one year, with
renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity. The College
and the Department will establish a series of structured merit-based
evaluations with the goal of transitioning successful candidates into
tenure-track professorship positions.



The Deanâ??s Postdoctoral Research Associate positions have been established
