From: Leif Karlstrom <leif@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Leif Karlstromâ??s group at the University of Oregon has an open postdoc
opportunity associated with a recently funded NSF-NERC FRES grant. The
project as a whole is concerned with how Large Igneous Provinces lead to
global climate perturbations and protracted climate recovery long after
main phase eruptions decline.

To tackle this broad question and associated diverse data constraints, a
mechanical framework is needed that can predict eruption cycles modulated
by evolving crustal state, erupted volumes, and degassing. The postdoc will
contribute to developing new numerical eruption cycle models, capable of
coupling down to mantle geodynamics models and up to global carbon cycle
models. They may participate in other aspects of the project (e.g., field
work in Columbia River Basalts and North Atlantic Igneous Province) as
appropriate.
