The Institute for Geochemistry and Petrology, in the Department of Earth
Sciences at ETH Zurich invites applications for a doctoral student in
geology/geochronology/magmatic petrology.

We are looking for a highly motivated student to conduct research focussed
on the timing and development of large, early-middle Permian magmatic
systems (including at least two large caldera complexes) whose products are
found today throughout southern Alps. The project will involve extensive
field work in the Alps, geochemical characterisation, and high-precision
geochronology on a range of volcanic and plutonic rocks. The project will
be integrated in a multidisciplinary collaboration led by partners at ETH
Zurich and the Museum of Nature South Tyrol (Italy). The larger projectâ??s
focus is both on the development of Permian magmatism and on environment
and ecosystem change throughout the key climate transition of the late
Palaeozoic; both aims will be supported by absolute age constraints
generated as part of the studentâ??s work.

The position is funded for a period of 4 years, starting early 2024.
Candidates should hold a MSc degree with a strong background in geology,
geochemistry, petrology, and a taste for fieldwork. Please apply through:
