4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 From: "Damby, David E" <ddamby@xxxxxxxx> Estimadas colegas / dear colleagues, We draw your attention the following health-related session and workshop at COV12. Session 418: Health hazards associated with volcanic emissions: quantifying emissions, assessing exposure, and informing mitigation. Volcanic eruptions can pose a considerable threat to the wellbeing and livelihoods of communities living near active volcanoes. For this session, we invite contributions from a broad range of disciplines relating to human and environmental health in volcanic areas, including: i) community exposure and protection, ii) health hazard and impact assessment (mineralogical, toxicological, clinical and epidemiological studies), iii) air and water quality monitoring and forecasting, iv) risk assessment and hazard management, including modelling studies of future eruptions impacts, v) community preparedness and response to volcanic eruptions. We particularly encourage submissions related to experiences in managing health-related challenges during eruptions, which are rarely documented in the academic literature. Pre-Conference Workshop: Experiences in preparing for and responding to the health impacts of volcanic eruptions in Latin America: Story sharing and information exchange. Preparing for and assessing the health impacts associated with volcanic phenomena requires coordinated, ongoing multidisciplinary efforts. Through storytelling and experience sharing, we can identify the barriers and facilitators to rapid health responses during and after eruptions and improve health risk management and mitigation strategies. The workshop will include 1) an overview on planning for health responses in eruption crises, 2) sharing of personal/group experiences related to preparing for and enacting a health response in volcanic eruption crises, and 3) discussion focused on addressing concerns, the identification of challenges and opportunities, and how collaboration can foster preparedness and response. We invite CoV conference attendees, civil protection and emergency managers, and public health representatives to share their experiences of health responses and impacts during the unrest, eruption and recovery phases related to recent volcanic eruptions (with a focus on Latin America). We anticipate large synergy with other conference Sessions and Workshops, including those on hazard assessment for Latin American volcanoes, volcanic airborne emissions impacts, lessons from recent eruptions, good practices and challenges, scientific-operational interfaces in volcanic crisis management, amongst others. We aim to make the workshop accessible to both Spanish and English speakers. 4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 ------------------------------
