Dear Colleagues,

I would like to bring your attention to our session at AGU this year,
taking place December 11-15, San Francisco, CA.

Session Title:

V004 - A Jack of Small Trades: Zooming in on the Nano and Micro Scale to
Better Understand Magmatic Processes

Session Description:

The macro-scale processes of magmatic systems have been well studied (e.g.,
magma mobilization, magma rise rate, fragmentation etc.), with well-defined
dependencies on changes in the physico-chemical properties of the magma
(i.e., temperature, chemistry, and viscosity etc.) being well categorized.
However, many of these processes begin on the micro-scale, producing
perturbations that change the eruption process. Study of such micro-scale
processes presents quite the challenge and requires the development of new
methods and techniques. This session is designed to emphasize the work of
those who use analytical tools or experimental techniques to further our
understanding of the impact of nano and micro scale processes on eruption
dynamics. We encourage contributions that have developed new methods and
techniques for characterizing sub-micron scale processes, in addition to
observational/modeling studies that link nano and micro scale system
changes to the evolution of eruptions and the eruptive products produced.
