The Institute for Geochemistry and Petrology, in the Department of Earth
Sciences at ETH Zürich invites applications for PhD fellowships in magmatic
petrology, geochronology, and volcanology.

is one the leading Earth Sciences departments in the world. It has been
ranked # 1 in the QS university ranking for almost 10 years in a row. The
department hosts many state-of-the-art facilities, and has large research
groups, allowing for a diverse, flexible advising and top research
conditions.

We are looking for highly motivated PhD students, interested in studying
the physics and/or chemistry of magma reservoirs in the Earthâ??s crust,
focusing on the magmatic evolution in transcrustal columns, as well as the
influence of tectonic settings on eruptive styles and compositional ranges
at volcanoes. The PhD projects, funded by the Swiss National Science
Foundation, will be integrated in the group of Prof. Olivier Bachmann, in
collaboration with colleagues in around the world. The projects will
include a combination of fieldwork, geochemical analyses of rock, mineral,
melt, and gas samples with data interpretation, potential experimental
work, and numerical modelling.

The length of the appointment will be for 4 years, starting as soon as
possible. Candidates should hold a MSc degree with a strong background in
geochemistry, petrology, and physics of magmas, skills in numerical
modeling, and a taste for fieldwork.

Interested candidates should send their applications including curriculum
vitae, a short research statement, and the names and addresses of three
references at the link below (Doctorate Student (PhD) fellowships in
