We are searching for a highly motivated colleague interested in magmatic petrology and geochronology to join our team. The 1-year post-doc project hosted within the magmatic petrology group of Prof. Olivier Bachmann is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The project will focus on the mineral-scale record of voluminous, explosive silicic eruptions of the Snake River Plain. We seek to understand how such magmas are formed and stored prior to eruption and address the tempo of silicic magmatism from the Yellowstone system. The project will be supervised by, and in collaboration with, Dr. Ben Ellis, Dr. Dawid Szymanowski, and Prof. Olivier Bachmann (all ETH Zurich). Helpful experience would include in-situ microanalysis, U/Pb geochronology, and modelling of igneous processes (particularly for diffusion speedometry). Additional information about the project is available upon request. Candidates should hold a PhD degree with a strong background in geochemistry and/or geology. Interested candidates should send their applications including curriculum vitae, a short (< 1 page) statement of motivation, and contact details for 2 referees combined in a single pdf file via email to Ben Ellis ( ben.ellis@xxxxxxxxxxxx <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://mail.ethz.ch/owa/redir.aspx?SURL=nlSjst2fSZA-aX1Vff-773O5h6DInNVv6KuAo4-aTBjmxnwLrlfTCG0AYQBpAGwAdABvADoAYgBlAG4ALgBlAGwAbABpAHMAQABlAHIAZAB3AC4AZQB0AGgAegAuAGMAaAA.&URL=mailto*3aben.ellis*40erdw.ethz.ch__;JSU!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!cA2cg9tKxDQyIyqujj9wyPchTa3r_0LDXXrndTos_Mci21VCuMjLdOAJ-c6fidacMyOaB0YuXeILMqOD1vTlOMU$>). Review of applications will begin 10.04.2023 with the project to begin as soon as is feasible thereafter. With best wishes, Ben, Dawid, and Olivier 8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8 ============================================================== Volcano Listserv is a collaborative venture among Arizona State University (ASU), Portland State University (PSU), the Global Volcanism Program (GVP) of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, and the International Association for Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI).
