2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 From: Danielle Charlton <d.charlton@xxxxxxxxxx> Hi everyone, As current Leader of the Commission of Cities and Volcanoes (CaV), it is my pleasure to open the Call for Nominations for four Commissioners, to serve from 2023-2026. Nominations are open through 17 January (New Zealand Standard Time) 2023, and voting will occur online from 18-23 January 2023. Please refer to information below and to the commission webpage, <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://citiesonvolcanoes.wordpress.com/about-us/__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!aoIqH4E4BYttHniAlCRCMwvmdyaVkFvNfZxjqz20vSM0qtANiOAd0mVFdI52ZF1AAx16kg6PSq_QKZ2kkqr0Iw$> which outlines the role and responsibilities of the CaV Commission and its Executive Committee. You may nominate yourself as a CaV Commissioner and/or another individual. Other Key information: - The CaV Commission Executive group consists of five commissioners (one is a past leader), who are supported by a Secretary, and Special Projects Coordinator. The current list of members can be found online. <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://citiesonvolcanoes.wordpress.com/about-us/__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!aoIqH4E4BYttHniAlCRCMwvmdyaVkFvNfZxjqz20vSM0qtANiOAd0mVFdI52ZF1AAx16kg6PSq_QKZ2kkqr0Iw$> - Four Commissioners will be elected to serve from 2023 to the next stand-alone IAVCEI General Assembly (likely 2026). - Of the open contested seats, one will be filled by an Early Career Representative (ECR), although there can be more than one ECR on the Executive Committee. An ECR received their terminal degree on or after January 1 2016, or with the 7 years, excluding parental or other relevant leave. What does being a commissioner involve? - Voting on selection of the host Cities on Volcanoes (COV) Conference location every 2 years. - Providing advocacy and advice to the COV conference local organising committees. - Supporting the ongoing mission of COV conferences through regular communication with its membership and IAVCEI. - Managing and maintaining a membership database. - Contributing to the promotion of safe, supportive, diverse and inclusive participation at the COV conferences. - These roles are voluntary. In addition, this commission is strongest when there is geographic and professional diversity in its leadership. In the past, the commission leadership has been dominated by Aotearoa New Zealand and the United States and the academic (including government scientist) sector. We encourage nominations that promote geographic and professional diversity, with nominees from Latin America, Africa, South East Asia or the Pacific (excluding Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia), and at least one Commissioner from outside the physical sciences (e.g. emergency management, civil defence and the social sciences). Of the five current commissioners, one is staying on in the past leader role (Graham Leonard), one is retiring (Carolyn Driedger), two are stepping down (Gustavo Villarosa, Tom Wilson), and one is seeking re-election (Natalia Deligne). *How to submit a nomination: * Send your nomination via email to Danielle Charlton d.charlton@xxxxxxxxxx who is managing the election process.
