6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6 From: Tobias Fischer <fischer@xxxxxxx> Dear Colleague, ÂThe CONVERSE Center is a newly NSF-funded Geohazards Catalyst Center that is dedicated to coordinating the academic response to volcanic eruptions to maximize the scientific return. The center follows oÂn from the CONVERSE Research Coordination Network that has been operational since 2018 with the same goal of coordinating the scientific response to volcanic eruptions between the US Volcano Observatories and the non-observatory scientific community. The current center continues this effort and also aims to coordinate the science response of US academic institutions to eruptions occurring outside the US. Over the next two years, the NSF grant will support community meetings, workshops, and virtual eruption scenario exercises, designed to pave the way for a five-year-funded center. 1. There will be a* lunchtime town hall* about this initiative at the IAVCEI General Assembly (time and location TBD). There will also be information at the upcoming USGS Subduction Zone science workshop in mid-January in Seattle, WA ( https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.usgs.gov/special-topics/subduction-zone-science/2023-usgs-subduction-zone-science-workshop__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!bvLSEnd9Mg-njRikdI2yOVOC6hJvRpAl0gJ1ve_GKTrWlwhuhd-Kw-T3rfqI36fa2RLG8I-LHcF17ULD$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.usgs.gov/special-topics/subduction-zone-science/2023-usgs-subduction-zone-science-workshop__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!eGxnioU3eHO-gbMP3wWjISM_JC6iwEWZHP0XdEnHvXurolYLRuRvmZE4-doXrzc3CDk_MI1z_cpawhI$>). 2. During this meeting, there will be overview talks, panel discussions, and opportunities to provide input about the structure of a 5-year CONVERSE Geohazards Center. More information on how to apply for the meeting will be forthcoming on the center's website. 3. Please join the CONVERSE *webinar series* titled â??Advancing Science during Volcanic Crisesâ?? which will be held on the second Tuesday of each month at 3 PM (US Eastern Time) from February through May 2023. Information on the schedule and how to register will be posted on the center's website. 4. CONVERSE is coordinating the response from the academic community to the Mauna Loa eruption.
