Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce the following session for the EGU 2023, to be
held in Vienna, Austria, on 23-28 April 2023.

 GMPV7.6
A holistic view of the timing of magmatic processes
 Conveners: Hélène Balcone-Boissard (ISTeP - Sorbonne Université),Fidel
Costa (IPGP), Chiara Maria Petrone (NHM), Sumit Chakraborty
(Ruhr-Universität Bochum), Ralf Dohmen (Ruhr-Universität Bochum)

In recent decades, there have been many new petrological determinations of
the time scales of magmatic processes covering a large range of processes
and time scales, which has led to new conceptual models of magmatic
systems. The rates and timing of magma accumulation, differentiation, and
transfer through the crust determine whether volcanoes erupt or whether the
magma stays in the crust and makes plutonic rocks. Constraining the timing
of magma ascent towards the surface is also critical for proper
interpretation of volcano monitoring datasets that ultimately help to
mitigate the hazards of volcanic eruptions. However, there are several
competing models on the longevities of magmatic systems, challenges in
integrating the time scale data from petrology to geophysics, and questions
about the precision and cross correlation between different
geochronometers. This session invites contributions around the topic of the
determination and implications of the time scales of magmatic processes
from a wide range of approaches including case studies of dating and
geospeedometry of natural systems, experimental investigation of the
kinetics of the processes including rate constants, and thermomechanical
modeling of magmatic systems.

*The Abstract submission deadline is on 10 January 2023.*

We are looking forward to receiving you Abstract and to meeting you in
Vienna.

 Best regards,
Hélène, Fidel, Chiara, Sumit and Ralf
