GMPV7.6 A holistic view of the timing of magmatic processes Conveners: Hélène Balcone-Boissard (ISTeP - Sorbonne Université),Fidel Costa (IPGP), Chiara Maria Petrone (NHM), Sumit Chakraborty (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), Ralf Dohmen (Ruhr-Universität Bochum) In recent decades, there have been many new petrological determinations of the time scales of magmatic processes covering a large range of processes and time scales, which has led to new conceptual models of magmatic systems. The rates and timing of magma accumulation, differentiation, and transfer through the crust determine whether volcanoes erupt or whether the magma stays in the crust and makes plutonic rocks. Constraining the timing of magma ascent towards the surface is also critical for proper interpretation of volcano monitoring datasets that ultimately help to mitigate the hazards of volcanic eruptions. However, there are several competing models on the longevities of magmatic systems, challenges in integrating the time scale data from petrology to geophysics, and questions about the precision and cross correlation between different geochronometers. This session invites contributions around the topic of the determination and implications of the time scales of magmatic processes from a wide range of approaches including case studies of dating and geospeedometry of natural systems, experimental investigation of the kinetics of the processes including rate constants, and thermomechanical modeling of magmatic systems. *The Abstract submission deadline is on 10 January 2023.* We are looking forward to receiving you Abstract and to meeting you in Vienna.
