"*Recent Developments and Applications in earth sciences of electron probe
micro-analysis*". A virtual workshop that will be offered in the period
27-30 March 2023. The workshop is on the use of the electron probe
microanalyzer (EPMA) with particular emphasis on modern developments and
geological applications.

Meet some of our lecturers:
*John Donovan* is the former director of the CAMCOR MicroAnalytical
Facility at the University of Oregon. Since 2021 he holds a courtesy
appointment in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of
Oregon. John is also president of Probe Software, Inc. a company that
distributes software for Electron Micro Probe Analyzer (EPMA) acquisition,
automation and analysis.

*Ariadni Georgatou *is a petrologist in the field of economic geology,
investigating specific magmatic processes that contribute to ore formation.
She completed both her Msc and PhD at the University of Geneva in
Switzerland, where she specialised in the topic of sulfide saturation in
volcanic rocks and its role to porphyry and epithermal deposit formation.
Ariadni then proceeded with post-doc studies as a SNSF mobility fellow to
conduct research at GNS Science in New Zealand and study the behavior of
metals and volatiles in Brothers submarine volcano associated with sea
floor massive sulfide deposit. Her research made use of several
micro-analytical techniques including SEM, EPMA, LA-ICP-MS and QEMSCAN.

*Ery Hughes* (she/her) is a volcanic fluid geochemist in the volcanology
team at Te PÅ« Ao | GNS Science in Aotearoa New Zealand interested in the
behaviour of volatiles in magmatic systems. Her PhD developed techniques
using the electron probe to measure iron oxidation state and water contents
in silicate glass.

*Lee Saper* is an igneous petrologist currently working as a postdoctoral
researcher at the University of Edinburgh. He is interested in
thermodynamics and chemical kinetics in igneous systems, comparative
planetology, and using x-ray and electron beam microanalytical techniques
to unravel the mysteries of natural and synthetic materials.

*The rest of our Speakers to be presented are: *James Day (University of
San Diego, SCRIPPS), Stamatios Flemetakis (University of Muenster), Anette
von der Handt (University of British Columbia), Ery Hughes (Te PÅ« Ao | GNS
Science), Rosie Jones (WDS Product Manager at Oxford Instruments
NanoAnalysis), Pierre Lanari (University of Bern), and Stuart Kearns
(University of Bristol).

Based on our experience, we are pretty sure that this workshop will provide
VALUABLE new knowledge for the undergraduate students, postgraduates, PhD,
postdocs, senior scientists, and lab managers. Every participant will have
the chance to learn the basics and more advanced aspects of electron probe
microanalysis.
ALL the previous will be given for a nominal fee of *30 euros *that will
cover the basic expenses for the hosting platform etc. All the participants
will have access on the recorded material up to 2 weeks after the end of
the workshop.
