3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 From: Costanza Bonadonna <Costanza.Bonadonna@xxxxxxxx> The Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Geneva, Switzerland, invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in physical volcanology and geophysics with a focus on the characterization of volcanic plumes and tephra fallout. The initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will characterize volcanic plume dynamics and sedimentation as well as aggregation of volcanic ash using dedicated strategies including drones for tephra sampling in the atmosphere and high-speed cameras and disdrometers for the characterization of particle fallout at the ground in collaboration with the INGV Catania Observatory and the Sakurajima Volcano Observatory. They will join a multidisciplinary team and will also be involved in the supervision of MSc and PhD research projects, playing a fundamental role within the research group of Prof. Costanza Bonadonna. Applicants must have a PhD in Earth Sciences, Physics, Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences or a related field at the time of appointment, as well as a significant record and/or promise of interdisciplinary research productivity. Suitable research backgrounds may include any combination of geophysics, physical volcanology, experimental volcanology and electrical engineering. Evidence of experience in geophysical observations, electronics and/or drone technology is desirable.
