Dear volcanology community,

With the upcoming IAVCEI General Assembly in New Zealand in Jan-Feb 2023,
we would like to take expressions of interest for new leaders of the IAVCEI
Commission on Tephra Hazard Modeling. Please let us know if you are
interested â?? or if you would like to nominate a colleague â?? by 15 October
2022. Ideally, we would like to see some diversity in terms of
field/modeling focus, geographic representation, and website/social media
experience from both senior and early career scientists. If you are
potentially interested but would like to know more, do not hesitate to
email us at thm@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Since its creation in 2003, the IAVCEI Commission on Tephra Hazard Modeling
has worked on key issues in tephra hazard research and applications. We
bring together scientists with different specializations (e.g., field-based
physical volcanologists, petrologists, and modelers) to expand the
understanding of hazardous processes and improve tephra-related models. The
commission is open to anyone interested in tephra hazards who would like to
contribute to activities, working groups, or to simply stay in the loop.

The commissionâ??s activities over the past few years are summarized on our
website, which has recently migrated to IAVCEIâ??s new platform:

We have also launched a new Twitter account: @IAVCEI_thm.

We look forward to hearing from you about this leadership opportunity and
answering any questions you may have.

Kind regards from the current commission co-leaders,

Sara Barsotti, Icelandic Meteorological Office
Marco Pistolesi, University of Pisa
Alexa Van Eaton, U.S. Geological Survey
