Dear Colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to an AGU session titled: â??*Turning
Earth Inside Out: Large Igneous Provinces, Mantle Plumes, and the
Co-Evolution of Earth's Interior and Surface Environments*â?? Session V017
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https*3A*2F*2Fagu.confex.com*2Fagu*2Ffm22*2Fprelim.cgi*2FSession*2F159263&data=05*7C01*7Cbb721*40eps.rutgers.edu*7C2a1ec56eee78415852ff08da6f4bcf3b*7Cb92d2b234d35447093ff69aca6632ffe*7C1*7C0*7C637944668652510999*7CUnknown*7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0*3D*7C3000*7C*7C*7C&sdata=UCDzPlAJXDQVt0Jax1K6RQ745Y0ao7MNd6*2FJMuBV4mg*3D&reserved=0__;JSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJQ!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!axHmDr2_kSNO06rROoOJtcChRKGlCdHRg6kljHOVOJ9po3eLy-1SXlzG_3aZFe8H0vQ4ZiAVoG_v-piea9E$>

Description: Voluminous Large Igneous Province (LIP) magmatism represents a
large-scale end-member for volcanic activity on Earth, and has coincided
with major shifts in Earthâ??s surface chemistry, climate, and biota. LIP
magmas serve as couriers from the deep mantle, and in some cases from the
subcontinental lithosphere. Finally, carbon outgassing during LIPs serves
as one of the few potential geological analogs for the scale of present-day
anthropogenic carbon release. This multi-disciplinary session will showcase
recent advances in understanding the physical, chemical, and redox
evolution of the deep mantle sources of LIPs and mantle plumes, the
mobilization of volatiles, the tempo and nature of LIP magmatic activity
and the relationship with geodynamics, and how these aspects of the life
cycle of LIPs relate to state-of-the-art records of paleo-environmental
changes. We welcome contributions from petrology, seismology, geochemistry,
geochronology, volcanology, paleoclimatologyâ??and especially a combination
of these fieldsâ??that aim to provide new perspectives on how LIPs work, and
how they serve as a coupling mechanism between the evolution of the mantle
and surface environments through Earthâ??s history.

Invited Presenters:

*Judy Pu* â?? University of California Santa Barbara

*Xiaochuan Tian* â?? Boston College

The deadline for abstract submission is August 3rd23:59 EDT.

We hope you can join us!

Jennifer Kasbohm, Benjamin Black, James Eguchi (Session Conveners)
