Dear Colleagues,

We invite submissions to our session V022: "Hotspots and Plumes - an
Interdisciplinary Examination of the Critical Link Between Deep and Shallow
Earth Processesâ??

*Session description: *Hotspots and mantle plumes constitute a critical
pathway by which deeply stored materials are brought to the surface,
linking the classical plate tectonics model with a longer deep mantle
cyclic storage hypothesis. Our evolving understanding of the dynamics of
the lower mantle has ignited debate about the origin and evolution of
heterogeneous deep mantle reservoirs. Central to these debates are the
geochemical, geophysical, and geodynamic insights into the
origin, evolution, and characteristics of a diverse range of hotspots. This
session will focus upon a collective interweaving the disparate strands of
knowledge within the field to yield a coherent tapestry describing the
roles played by mantle plumes and hotspots in Earth processes. We welcome
contributions from all disciplines studying plumes and hotspots and
encourage authors to consider how their work might fit into the larger
narrative outlined above.

Abstracts are due by 3 August 2022 23:59 EDT (GMT-4).

Kind regards,

Tyrone O. Rooney, Valerie A. Finlayson, Matthew G. Jackson, and Aaron J.
Pietruszka
