*A seminar series on diffusion modelling to determine timescales of
processes (Diffusion Chronometry)*
Dear Colleagues,

Our next seminar will be held on *Thursday, March 24* (16:30-18:30 *CET*),
with a different flavour. The speaker will be

*John BradySmith College, Northampton, MA, USA*

*Kinetic processes began to be studied, through experimental studies,
quantitative models, and observations on natural rocks, in the 1960's and
experienced a boom in the 1970's and early 80's through a variety of
studies. This was the combined result of the availability of analytical
tools that allowed concentration profiles to be measured with high spatial
resolution (electron microprobe, transmission electron microscope),
availability of computers, and a general interest in quantification. John
was one of the participants in the studies at that time and made some of
the pioneering contributions. Some of the ideas are beginning to be revived
now, partly because a new generation of analytical and computation tools
have become available. We have requested John to provide us a perspective
on those early studies, based on his experience. He will speak on*

*"An almost random walk through petrology and kinetics: personal adventures
during two scientific revolutions"*

*We look forward to seeing you all there. You need to register for the
talk, and can do so
