Dear Colleagues,

The Volcanology-Geochemistry-Petrology section of AGU is seeking
nominations for the 2022 Hisashi Kuno Award. The Kuno Award is given
annually to a young scientist in recognition of outstanding contributions
in VGP. This year VGP is extending eligibility by one year because of
Covid-19 impacts, so most nominees should have received their PhD within
the last 8 years (not the normal 7), i.e., in 2014 or later. Other life
factors, such as childbearing, adoption, illness, etc., can also extend
eligibility. If you have questions about eligibility, please contact me.

A full description of the award, instructions for submitting nominations,
and a list of recipients may be found at:

*The deadline for submitting a nomination for the 2022 Kuno Award is April
1, 2022*. This is a little earlier than in past years.

Please take a moment to review the list of Kuno Award recipients. If you
can think of someone who received their terminal degree recently and whose
scientific contributions should be recognized by this award, please
consider organizing a nomination effort on their behalf. And please think
broadly about what constitutes contributions to our society. While
research achievement is important, the committee considers other factors as
well, including support for collaborators/coauthors, younger scientists,
scientifically-engaged public, etc.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Matt
