The Department of Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Washington
invites applications for a tenure­-track position in igneous processes.
This position will demonstrate a creative vision and combine geological
field observations of ancient and/or active systems with instrumental
analysis, physical models, and/or laboratory experiments to significantly
advance the understanding of igneous processes and how they may relate to
active phenomena. This position will be expected to obtain external funding
for research and provide high quality teaching in undergraduate and
graduate programs. This position will contribute to the undergraduate
curriculum in Earth Materials, Mineralogy, Igneous Processes, Geochemistry,
Volcanology, and/or Field Geology, and attract and effectively mentor
excellent research students. This position may present opportunities to
incorporate fieldwork into teaching and research. Opportunities for
collaboration exist with departmental research groups in geophysics,
structural geology and tectonics, metamorphic petrology, geochemistry,
geomorphology, and planetary sciences and with the Department of
Atmospheric Sciences and the School of Oceanography.

The College of the Environment seeks to attract and promote a diverse

Applicants will be expected to participate in undergraduate and graduate
teaching, independent research, and service. The College of the Environment
and the Department of Earth and Space Sciences offer a range of networking,
mentoring and professional development opportunities for junior faculty.
Appointment is expected to be filled at the Assistant Professor level. This
is a full-­time appointment with a 9 ­month/year service period. The
anticipated start date is September 1, 2022.

*Qualifications*

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant
field by the start of the appointment.
