Research interests may be in any area within the solid earth geosciences, including petrology, volcanology, mineralogy and related fields. We are most interested in applicants with expertise in state-of-the-art higher temperature mineralogical and petrological techniques and concepts that complement our existing programs in natural resources and economic geology, geophysics, geothermal energy, structural geology, and geochronology, among others. The candidate will be expected to attract research funding from external sources. The successful candidate will teach core geoscience courses such as igneous/metamorphic petrology, mineralogy and upper division or graduate courses in topics of their choice. Salary for this Assistant Professor position will be commensurate with experience. Requirements: The Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences is hiring a faculty member in the broadly-defined area of Earth Materials who is capable of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting fundamental research, building an active research portfolio, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and mentoring students at all levels. A Ph.D. in Geology or a closely related field at the time of appointment is required. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with the ability and desire to build a vigorous, externally funded research program are encouraged to apply. A track record of peer-reviewed publications, attainment of research funding, and teaching experience is desirable. We are especially interested in applicants who have a demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentoring and advising students from diverse backgrounds.
