Dear Colleagues,

We would like to announce an SZ4D MCS workshop
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.sz4dmcs.org/landscapes-and-seascapes__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!JTpur8oXnoUhUJevGY5ufOQlcWV1Y7-chhE2rApd_S4vEnkAi9OJQphPMYLMoug$>
focused
on the computational challenges associated with modeling surface processes
at subduction zones. The workshop will foster discussion of existing and
needed models, modeling capabilities and infrastructure to help resolve
SZ4D Landscapes and Seascapes (L&S) primary science driver questions: (1)
How do events within Earthâ??s atmosphere, hydrosphere, and solid-earth
generate, consume and transport sediment across subduction-zone landscapes
and seascapes? and (2) What fraction of a subduction zoneâ??s energy budget
goes into building and shaping subduction zone land- and seascapes? More
broadly, the workshop will be a venue to discuss modeling challenges in
geomorphology and how the community could better organize â?? including
training and focused research efforts â?? to address these challenges.

*The workshop will be held virtually via Zoom, 9aâ??1p PDT / 12â??4p EDT on
October 18 & 19, 2021. Please register here
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYtd-uvpjorH9e06ubcLURBuAmEPVrI_b97__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!JTpur8oXnoUhUJevGY5ufOQlcWV1Y7-chhE2rApd_S4vEnkAi9OJQphPQZdj2zs$>
by
October 11.*

Each day will begin with a series of short talks, followed by discussion
and breakout sessions. Community feedback from this workshop will inform
the final SZ4D MCS RCN Report (to be prepared in December 2021) and the
eventual structure of the MCS.

We look forward to seeing you online!
