2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 From: Chiara Montagna <chiara.montagna@xxxxxxx> Dear Colleagues, The IAVCEI commission on Volcanic and Igneous Plumbing Systems (VIPS) organizes a virtual seminar series focusing on different aspects and methodologies that aim at unraveling magma storage and transport processes in the broadest sense. Our next host is *Eleonora Rivalta*, <https://www.unibo.it/sitoweb/eleonora.rivalta/en> from the University of Bologna and GFZ Potsdam, on *May 17 *at* 10am CET*. *What pathways for ascending magma? Implications for geophysics and petrology.*Modelling the ascent of magma through the Earthâ??s crust up to the creation of eruptive fissures requires considering the coupling of magma flow with host rock deformation. In this presentation, after summarising the main modelling approaches, presented more at length in the MCS Volcanic Systems Modeling Workshop (talk accessible at https://www.sz4dmcs.org/volcano-workshop, see bottom of the page), I will expand on how magma diking models can help us better understand geological, geophysical and petrological observations, as well as better forecast the location and time of future eruptions. To attend the webinar, register at https://tinyurl.com/5d7kksea. Come one, come all! For more information on the seminar series and other commission matters, as well as to sign up as members, please visit our website https://vipscommission.org. Best wishes from the VIPS commission 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 ------------------------------
