Dear Colleagues,

Complex subduction of the Pacific Plate under the North American and
Okhotsk Plates gives rise to some of the most remarkable volcanic, seismic,
and tectonic activity in the world, expressed in the Alaska Peninsula and
Aleutian Islands, Kamchatka Peninsula and Kurile Islands, and northern
Japan. The high level of geodynamic activity has attracted researchers from
many disciplines and from many parts of the world, especially Europe,
Russia, Japan, and North America. These studies are of paramount importance
for the assessment of natural hazards and associated risks in the region. We
invite members of the international volcanological community to contribute
papers for a special issue of Pure and Applied Geophysics (PAGEOPH)
entitled â??Geophysical studies of geodynamics and natural hazards in the
northwestern Pacific regionâ??. When accepted, papers are published
immediately on the PAGEOPH website and later collected into the special
volume. Authors can choose between free traditional publication or open
access for a fee. The deadline for submission is 1 October 2021. Details
are available at https://www.springer.com/journal/24/updates/17234190.

The volume honors the memory of Alexey Ivaschenko of the Institute of
Marine Geology and Geophysics (RAS), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Dr. Ivaschenko
conducted seismological research on the northwestern Pacific region for
most of his highly productive career and was a strong proponent of
international cooperation. He succumbed to Covid-19 late last year.

Please let us know if you are interested in participating.
