Professor Emeritus Cathy Busby with the Department of Earth and Planetary
Sciences at the University of California, Davis, seeks to fill an Associate
Specialist in Volcanology and Tectonics position starting as soon as May 1,
2021.


The project is as follows:

Miocene to Recent volcanic and tectonic evolution of the central Sierra
Nevada and adjacent Walker Lane.

Requires experience in making detailed facies maps of volcanic rocks, which
are commonly laterally discontinuous and/or altered, as well as the
intrusions and faults that cut them, to determine displacement histories on
faults as well as structural controls on volcanic centers.  Proficiency
with ArcGIS and interpretation of satellite and air photo images required.
This research requires experience in supporting lab work, preferably
including petrography, whole-rock major- and trace-element geochemistry,
and 40 Ar/39Ar geochronology.


Applicants must have a publication record on volcanic rocks, in
international peer-reviewed journals.

Associate Specialist must move to UC Davis in time to begin fieldwork in
June 2021.

Applicants must hold a PhD.
