Hi all,

I would like to draw your attention to a 2-week, 4-credit field course
called "Fire and Ice" run by Meredith Townsend and Leif Karlstrom at the
University of Oregon. This course will take place from July 7 - 20th in the
Oregon Cascades and Wallowa Mountains (northeastern Oregon) and covers
topics in volcanology and glacial geology. In particular, students will
learn about drone mapping, characterization of glaciovolcanic products,
glacial geomorphology, and the plumbing system for the Columbia River
Basalt Flows. See this link for details
<https://earthsciences.uoregon.edu/2020-field-studies-section-2>. This
course is part of a longer, 6-week field camp run by The University of
Oregon, Department of Earth Sciences (*see description below* for more
details).

Please contact me or Leif if you have any questions!

The University of Oregon, Department of Earth Sciences is accepting
applications for a summer geoscience field camp (6 weeks total, divided
into 3 sections each worth 4 credits). The course will take place
throughout Central Oregon, the Oregon Cascades, and Southwest Montana, and
themes include Tectonics, Paleontology, Volcanology, Glacial Geomorphology,
Stratigraphy, and Structural Geology. The first two sections involve
camping on private land, the third section is based out of the University
of Montana dormitories, and all three sections involve in-the-field
instruction. The camp is open to students at both the undergraduate and
graduate levels, but course prerequisites may apply (see link for details
<https://earthsciences.uoregon.edu/undergraduates/field-camp>). There is a
$700 course fee per section -- students may choose to attend
specific sections, or they may join for the entire 6 weeks. Attached here
is a flyer for the camp, and more details with application instructions can
be found in the following link:
https://earthsciences.uoregon.edu/undergraduates/field-camp *The deadline
to apply is April 2nd (extended from March 19th). *

Please reach out if you have any questions! We are working to make our
field camp as safe, inclusive, and accessible as possible; we are committed
to a gender balance of instructors in each section and exceed state and
federal safety protocols for COVID.

Instructors: Ray Weldon, Sammy Castonguay, Dave Blackwell, Meredith
Townsend, Leif Karlstrom, and Marli Miller
