7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7 From: Virginie Pinel <virginie.pinel@xxxxxxxxxxx> Funded PhD position* Assimilation of geodetic data for risk assessment in near-real time by means of a particle filter*, ISTerre-LISTIC, Chambéry, France. *The main objective of this thesis is to improve the integration of geodetic data provided by remote sensing and dynamical mechanical models for magma transport, thus meeting a crucial need in modern volcanology. *The PhD position is partly funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and the French Space Agency (CNES). The work will be carried out at University Savoie-Mont Blanc at ISTerre, in the Volcano Team located at Chambéry and supervised jointly by Virginie Pinel, Yajing Yan and Andy Hooper (University of Leeds, UK). Responsibilities: The PhD will focus on the development of an efficient data assimilation strategy based on the particle filter allowing to use timely available geodetic deformation data to predict the location and timing of eruptive vents resulting from magmatic intrusions propagation. This work will build on our experience in applying sequential data assimilation techniques (i.e. Ensemble Kalman Filter) to volcanological problems (Bato et al, 2017, Bato et al., 2018) and in modeling magma propagation. Qualification: The Ph.D candidate should have a strong background in mathematics / statistics and/or geophysics. Knowledge in volcanology or computational skills are appreciated. Contact: The position will start in October 2021. Further information can be obtained from Dr. Virginie Pinel (Virginie.Pinel@xxxxxxxxxxx). Candidates must apply on the CNES website ( *https://recrutement.cnes.fr/en/annonce/1099951-043-assimilation-of-geodetic-data-for-risk-assessment-38610-gieres* <https://recrutement.cnes.fr/en/annonce/1099951-043-assimilation-of-geodetic-data-for-risk-assessment-38610-gieres>) before April, 2 2021. 7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7 ------------------------------
