From: "Michelfelder, Gary" <GaryMichelfelder@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Dear Colleagues-

I am looking for two enthusiastic and motivated M.Sc. students to join the
Petrology Group at Missouri State University to begin August 2021. The
successful candidates will play a key role in an NSF-funded project working
in the Andean Central Volcanic Zone of Bolivia and Chile. Projects are
broadly focused on addressing timescales of magma accumulation at composite
volcanoes along and behind the modern arc front. Students will work in a
collaborative environment and gain exposure to a variety of disciplines
within Earth science and geography both in the department and on the
project. Full financial support including teaching and research
assistantships will be provided for the students.

Candidates should have at least an undergraduate degree in geology or a
related area, and excellent analytical and writing skills. Prior research
experience using geochemical and geochronological data would be beneficial.
If you are interested, please contact, and send your CV and a cover letter
to Gary Michelfelder at garymichelfelder@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx prior to the
application deadline (Feb. 1, 2021). Additional teaching assistant
positions are also available in a variety of research areas in geology and
geography, including remote sensing, environmental chemistry and structural
geology.

Candidates should submit their completed application form to the graduate
program at Missouri State University prior to February 1st, 2021 for Fall
2021 admission. This includes a personal statement, three letters of
references, official transcripts, and the TOEFL score (for international
students whose native language is not English and who have not spent an
academic year in a U.S. institution). The Graduate Admission Committee no
longer considers GRE test scores for admission decisions. Missouri State
University is an EO/AA/M/F/Veterans/Disability/Sexual Orientation/Gender
Identity Employer and Institution. Applications from underrepresented
minority students, persons with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ
community, nontraditional students, and other underrepresented and
disadvantaged groups in geosciences are strongly encouraged to apply. More
information on the Department of Geography, Geology, and Planning, the
graduate program, and the application procedure can be found at
https://geosciences.missouristate.edu/.
