PhD Position in Magma Transport Dynamics at the University of Auckland, New
Zealand

*Magma transport dynamics in large igneous provinces and volcanic fields*

The School of Environment at the University of Auckland is searching for a
highly qualified and motivated student to perform field- and
laboratory-based analyses of high-quality exposures of fossilized
intrusions in the western USA. The successful candidate will perform rock
magnetic and other geochemical/petrological analyses to interpret magma
flow in dikes at a variety of scales, from large igneous provinces to
volcanic fields, to understand how magma is transported from melt sources
to eruptive centres.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Drs James Muirhead and Mike
Rowe and have research experience in at least one of rock magnetism,
structural geology, igneous petrology, geochemistry, and volcanology. They
will need to demonstrate English language proficiency and acceptance will
be subject to securing a University of Auckland PhD scholarship.

Potential applicants are encouraged to contact James Muirhead (
j.muirhead@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) to learn more about the project and the graduate
program at the University of Auckland.
