*Dear colleagues,*

We are glad to let you know that our proposal on special issue of
Pacific-Asian Tectonics is formally accepted by eidtiorial of Earth-Science
Reviews. Now you can submit your manuscript to *VSI: Pacific-Asian
Tectonics *when you submit it.

East Asia is the region that lies between the Tibet Plateau and the West
Pacific Ocean. Since the breakup of Pangea in the Mesozoic it has been a
superconvergent zone. Many continental blocks of various sizes assembled to
form the region, creating world-class orogenic belts and unique
metallogenic systems. Some stable cratons were destroyed and replaced. The
Mesozoic Plateau in East China collapsed and was onlapped by Meso-Cenozoic
basins that are the main targets of oil and gas exploration in China. Many
subduction-related arcs developed, e.g., the Mesozoic Yanshanian
subduction-related arc in the Cenozoic circum-southeast Asia subduction
system, which is related to retreat of the west Pacific subduction system.
The terrain and geomorphology underwent tremendous change and is today
characterized by the Cenozoic Tibet Plateau to the west and marginal sea
basins to the east.

Given this history, East Asia is exceptionally rich in diverse geological
phenomena related to processes of major global significance in Earth
history. It presents a vast natural laboratory within which some of the
most topical and fundamental problems in Plate Tectonics can be addressed.
These include the processes and dynamics that build tectonic plates,
including intraplate volcanism and deformation, ophiolite obduction, and
the impingement of oceanic plateaus on subduction zones, those that destroy
themâ??craton wasting, orogeny collapse, plate fragmentation and plate
boundary processes, and those that simply move themâ??shearing and boundary
normal motion, studied as plate kinematics.

We are looking forward to seeing your big contribution.

*Please notice the proposed time schedule:*

Deadline for first submission of manuscripts

15st June 2020

Completion of first review round

15th September, 2020

Deadline for revised manuscripts

15th November, 2020

Completion of second reviews

31st December, 2020

Deadline for 2nd revisions of manuscripts

28th February, 2021

Final compilation of the volume and completion of the mini-review/preface
and front matter

31st March 2021
*In addition, for authors:*
â?¢Papers are published as stand-alone papers a few weeks after acceptance,
with a volume title and guest editor listing in the contents lists. After
the last paper is accepted the volume collection is published as a
â??virtualâ?? special issue. This process represents a considerable time-saving
for authors.
â?¢Review-type papers will be in free colour print.
â?¢The volume will be made free to view for 3 months.
