Hello All

Wanted to let you know about another new free online teaching module and
associated webinar.

NAGT Webinar Series Presents:

*Teaching About Volcanoes with Monitoring Data and Communicating Risk*

Wednesday, January 29, 2020
1:00 pm PT | 2:00 pm MT | 3:00 pm CT | 4:00 pm ET

Webinar Registration deadline: Monday, January 27, 2020

Tap into the natural fascination students have with volcanoes as an entry
to learn about volcano monitoring and communicating risk. Give your
undergraduate students a chance to learn to analyze a wide variety of data
sets including GPS, tilt, InSAR, lidar, and seismic.

This webinar introduces instructors to Monitoring Volcanoes and
Communicating Risks
<https://serc.carleton.edu/getsi/teaching_materials/volcanic_hazards/index.html>
teaching
module from the GEodesy Tools for Societal Issues (GETSI)
<https://serc.carleton.edu/getsi/index.html> project. During the module,
students not only learn to increase their data analysis skills but gain
experience in the type of risk communication that professional hazard
scientists need to engage in. A variety of case study sites are used
from Hawaii and Mt St Helens to Yellowstone and Central America, including
volcanic types of shield, composite, and caldera-forming volcanoes.
Students learn about different volcano types and volcano terminology
through experience with societal impacts, rather than just memorizing facts.

The module is appropriate for a wide variety of courses including
introductory geoscience courses or early in majors-level volcanology or
natural hazards courses.

Online teaching module and webinar are free!
