*EDUCATION AND OUTREACH COORDINATOR*

*(TEMPORARY)*





The Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) is the agency responsible for
monitoring the Soufrière Hills Volcano (SHV) on Montserrat. MVO advises
local authorities on volcanic activity and its associated hazards and
risks. MVO has a diverse education and outreach programme working with the
government, media organisations, schools and the general public.



The Education and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for managing all the
education and outreach activities at the MVO. This includes monitoring
public perception of the MVO and its role in order to better coordinate
public education, as well as promoting the work of the MVO.



This is a temporary appointment with a duration of one year.



*Duties:*

   1. Manage all aspects of MVOâ??s media activities. Including its monthly
   radio program â??Volcano Vibesâ??.


   1. Develop and maintain an effective multimedia campaign aimed at
   continued education about the SHV and living with an active volcano.
   2. Collaborate with scientists and technical staff to develop relevant
   and engaging information material for public dissemination â?? with special
   emphasis on audio-visual material.


   1. Work with the education system in Montserrat to strengthen the
   teaching of earth science and geologic hazards.
   2. Manage MVOâ??s website with the goal of making it the destination of
   choice for those seeking current and historical information about SHV and
   the MVO.
   3. Develop and maintain an effective educational campaign including, for
   example, MVO tours, field trips and school visits.
   4. Develop, maintain and update the MVO archive of audio-visual material
   on the eruption of the Soufriere Hills Volcano.
   5. Provide support for the upcoming SHV25 years on conference to be
   hosted in Montserrat
      1. Maintaining the website
      2. Management of email regarding the  conference
      3. Design and production of printed materials associated with the
      conference
      4. Assistance with promotional materials
      5. Coordination of media associated with the conference



*Skills and Qualifications:*

1.  A university degree in Earth Sciences, Mass Communications or a related
field is required. A post-graduate degree would be an asset.

   1. Experience or a background in education is desired.

3.      Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are
essential. The candidate should be able to present scientific information
in language appropriate for public dissemination. Working knowledge of
Spanish would be an asset.

4.      The candidate must be experienced in the use of office, web-design
and graphics software. Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite would be an
asset.

   1. The candidateâ??s ability to work both independently and in a team is
   vital. The candidate would be expected to initiate new projects.
   2. The candidate should have strong attention to detail.
   3. The candidate should have a proven ability to meet deadlines and to
   work in a fast-paced working environment.







*Salary will be up to EC$70,896.00 annually.*
