4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 From: Luke Bowman <ljbowman@xxxxxxx> Michigan Technological University, the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI), and Lutheran World Relief in El Salvador are collaborating with other local partners on an international project funded by the NSF International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) Program. Funding (travel and stipend) is available for 10 US graduate students to conduct research in El Salvador on "Agricultural Community Adaptations to Extreme Hydrometeorological Events in Volcanic Terrains." The Summer 2020 (Year 1) cohort focuses on understanding issues of water availability, gender and power relationships, root causes of vulnerability within communities, and the installation of hydrometeorological monitoring equipment. The knowledge gained may provide evidence to support local partnersâ?? development interventions within target communities, as well as inform project work in subsequent summer cohorts. Cohorts of 10 new students will be recruited for Summers 2021 and 2022. *WHEN & WHERE:* Students will participate in an 8-week summer research experience in select communities of El Salvador from June 15 - August 7 (subject to change). *FUNDING:* All travel expenses (subject to university and NSF policies) will be provided and a $2000 stipend to those who complete the experience. *ELIGIBILITY:* We seek students with interdisciplinary research interests and social science backgrounds. Students must be full-time graduate students (incoming is acceptable) and US citizens or permanent residents. Students should not have conducted research internationally, but international experience is fine. *INTERESTED? More information and application process at:* www.cuahsi.org/projects/IRES Application Deadline: 31 January 2020.
