The Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias (INVOLCAN) and the Environmental
Research Division of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables
(ITER) seek Post-Doctoral researchers to join their program. A completed
PhD is a requirement for these posts (please see below). Work experience
in foreign countries and foreign language skills are desirable.
Knowledge of Spanish language is also highly desirable (but not a
prerequisite). The positions will be based at INVOLCAN and ITER
(Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain), however, routine travel to
collaborate with colleagues is expected.  If you are interested and have

selected candidates will submit a research project proposal jointly with
INVOLCAN or ITER to the Spanish R&D Programme. The closing date for
submission of CVs/expressions of interest is December 31, 2019.

The characteristics of Post-Doctoral positions financed by the Spanish
R&D Programme are:
* PostDoc Ramón y Cajal: for Post-Doctoral researchers with a
distinguished scientific career. Contract duration: 5 years. Salary
31,600 â?¬/year with an additional 40,000 â?¬ for R+D activities (PhD
obtained between 1/1/2009-31/12/2019).
* PostDoc Juan de la Cierva (A): for young researchers wishing to
strengthen their Post-Doctoral career. Contract duration: 3 years.
Salary 25,000 â?¬/year with an additional 6,000 â?¬ for R+D activities (PhD
obtained between 1/1/2015-31/12/2019).
* PostDoc Juan de la Cierva (B): for young researchers wishing to start
their Post-Doctoral career. Contract duration: 2 years. Salary
21,500â?¬/year (PhD obtained between 1/1/2018-31/12/2019).

We are looking for persons interested in the following research topics:
â?¢    Volcano monitoring: to improve volcano monitoring programs using
geophysical, geochemical, remote sensing and petrological methods.
â?¢    Volcanic risk management: to strengthen scientific and technical
expertise in defining and quantifying volcanic hazard and risks, as well
as educational programs to reduce volcanic risk.
â?¢    Groundwater resources in volcanic terrains:  to advance knowledge
of oceanic volcanic island aquifer systems with the aim of improving
water management plans.
â?¢    Exploration of geothermal resources:  to enhance the capabilities
for detection and evaluation of geothermal resources using geological,
geochemical, geophysical and remote sensing methods.
â?¢    Air quality and environmental pollution:  to advance analytical
methods and evaluation parameters for the emission of atmospheric
pollutants from natural and anthropogenic sources, as well as general
air quality.
â?¢    Food traceability: to use applied isotope geochemistry to
strengthen scientific and technical expertise to protect producers and
consumers from fraud, and to contribute to the development of rigid
controls on the authenticity and geographical origin of products.
