From: Kristen Fauria <kristen.fauria@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Dear Colleagues,

I am currently welcoming applications for PhD positions in Earth and
Environmental Sciences at Vanderbilt University.

My research uses geological fluid mechanics to address problems in
volcanology, flow through porous materials, and earth surface processes.
Laboratory experiments and field observations are a key component of my
work and previous projects have focused on the mechanics of pyroclastic
density currents and submarine volcanic eruptions. PhD projects will be
defined according to student interests and possible topics include the fate
of ash from submarine eruptions, the mechanics of particle-laden flows such
as pyroclastic currents and plumes, or the connections between volcanic
rocks textures and their ability to ingest water and float.

Located in vibrant Nashville, Tennessee, Vanderbiltâ??s EES Department prides
itself on close and enthusiastic collaboration between students and
faculty. Areas of research emphasis in the department include magmatic and
volcanic processes, transport phenomena, paleoecology and paleoclimatology,
and geochemical processes. Graduate students in the department are fully
supported with health benefits, tuition support, and 12-month stipends.
Additional support is available for field and conference travel. Please see
https://www.vanderbilt.edu/ees/graduate.php for more information on
graduate studies in EES at Vanderbilt University.

Please contact me for more information and further discussion on graduate
student opportunities! In your email, I encourage you to send a CV and a
short description of your research interests. I will be at both the 2019
GSA Annual Meeting and AGU Fall Meeting and would look forward to meeting
in person at those times. Formal applications will be due in January 2020.
