Dear Colleagues,

we would like to invite you to submit your abstracts in our session A050 "
Convective and Volcanic Clouds, monitoring, modeling, and mitigation
practices" for the next AGU Fall Meeting.
Just 2 days left for the submission, remind that the deadline is the 31
July 2019 23:59 EDT.

A050 Convective and Volcanic Clouds, monitoring, modeling and mitigation
practices
Stefano Corradini, INGV
Riccardo Biondi, University of Padova
Michael Pavolonis, NOAA/NESDIS
Isabelle Taylor, University of Oxford

Invited talks: Mike Fromm and Alexa Van Eaton

The frequency and intensity of extreme convective events are expected to
increase under climate change conditions. Convective weather, including
convection caused or influenced by volcanic activity, is a major hazard
with significant economic impacts. For instance, it is well known that
volcanic ash, originating from convective columns, can severely damage
aircraft systems and engines. The mix of meteorological and volcano
influenced convective clouds is a real challenge as demonstrated by the
recent Anak Krakatau eruption.

There is an urgent need to develop new techniques and instruments for
monitoring and modeling hazardous convective and volcanic clouds and to
develop early warning systems in support of operational decision-making.

The aim of the session is to promote discussions on current and future
developments related to understanding, monitoring, and forecasting
convective and volcanic clouds with the goal of advancing hazard mitigation.
